Scouting America

The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) is undergoing a significant rebranding effort and will change its name to Scouting America. This change, set to take effect on February 8, 2025, marks the first name change in the organization’s 114-year history. The rebranding aims to reflect the organization’s commitment to inclusivity, ensuring that all youth feel welcome. This shift is part of an ongoing evolution that began in 2019 when girls were first allowed to join the Cub Scouts and Scouts BSA programs. The new name, Scouting America, signifies a broader embrace of diversity and inclusivity while maintaining the core mission of preparing young people for life through educational and adventurous activities

YPT Training

Youth Protection Training (YPT) in Scouting America (BSA) is a crucial program designed to ensure the safety and well-being of all youth participants. This mandatory training educates leaders, volunteers, and parents on how to recognize and prevent abuse and inappropriate behavior. It covers a range of topics including the policies and procedures that must be followed to create a safe environment, the signs of abuse, and the appropriate steps to take if abuse is suspected or reported. The training is regularly updated to reflect the latest best practices and legal requirements, reinforcing the BSA’s commitment to providing a secure and supportive environment for all its members.

Safe Swim Defense

Safe Swim Defense is a comprehensive set of guidelines established by the Scouting America (BSA) to ensure the safety of all participants in swimming activities. This training program outlines eight essential points that must be adhered to during any swimming event: qualified supervision, personal health review, safe area, response personnel, lookout, ability groups, buddy system, and discipline. These guidelines are designed to prevent accidents and ensure a safe, controlled environment for swimming. Leaders and volunteers are trained to implement these points, ensuring that all participants are aware of the rules and the measures in place to protect them. Safe Swim Defense is a vital part of the BSA’s commitment to safety and responsible aquatic activities.

BALOO Training
Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) training is an essential program provided by Scouting America (BSA) to equip Cub Scout leaders and parents with the skills and knowledge necessary for successful and safe outdoor activities. This comprehensive training covers topics such as camping planning, first aid, outdoor cooking, campfire programs, safety, and navigation. BALOO ensures that leaders are well-prepared to organize and lead overnight camping trips and outdoor adventures.  Completion of BALOO training is a requirement for at least one adult on any Cub Scout pack overnighter, underscoring the BSA’s dedication to providing safe, fun, and educational outdoor experiences.
